Just wizz up these fruit drinks to start your day well.
Skinny Snack
1/2 cup peeled, diced rockmelon 1/2 cup peeled, diced honeydew melon 1 kiwi fruit, peeled and coarsely chopped 6 large strawberries, dehulled 3/4 cup Jalna Fat Free Natural Yoghourt
Puree rockmelon, honeydew, kiwi fruit and strawberries with blender. Add yoghourt and puree again until smooth. Makes about 1 3/4 cups
Tips:
- You can also add fresh raspberries or blueberries and puree with other fruit.
- When in season, substitute green Kiwi fruit for Kiwi Gold.
Perfect Start
2 tablespoons rolled oats 1 cup reduced fat milk 2 large, ripe bananas, peeled and coarsely chopped 2 tablespoons (about 20g) slivered almonds 2 teaspoons honey Pinch ground nutmeg or cinnamon
Soak oats in milk for 10 minutes. Puree banana and almonds with blender. Add milk mixture and honey and puree again until smooth. Makes about 2 cups
Tips:
- Heat almonds in a frypan with no oil. Cook over moderate heat until almonds are golden for a nutty flavour.
- You can substitute almonds with other nuts or the banana with dried fruit.
Something to Glow About
1 guava, peeled and coarsely chopped 1 kiwi fruit, peeled and coarsely chopped 1/2 cup orange juice 1 teaspoon fresh lime juice 1 passionfruit
Puree guava and kiwi fruit with a blender. Add orange juice and lime juice and puree again until smooth. Stir through passionfruit pulp. Makes about 1 1/3 cups
Tips:
- You can also peel and dice 1/4 - 1/2 pink grapefruit and puree with guava.
- For more tang add lime zest.
- When in season, substitute green Kiwi fruit for Kiwi Gold for added phytochemicals.
- Be careful not to puree passionfruit or the seeds become bitter.
Inner Calm - Inner Health
2 kiwi fruit, peeled and coarsely chopped 3/4 cup Jalna Premium Honey Vanilla Yoghourt 1/3 cup calcium enriched soy drink 2 teaspoons wheatgerm 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
Puree kiwi fruit with handblender. Add remaining ingredients and puree again until smooth. Makes about 1 2/3 cups
Tips:
- If a thinner consistency is preferred, decrease yoghurt and increase milk.
- Look for a yoghourt with the words probiotic or aBc on pack.
- Yoghurt can be replaced with drinking yoghourt.
Body Fuel
425g canned apricots in natural juice 1/2 cup Jalna Berryfruits Yoghourt 1/4 cup orange juice Pinch cinnamon (optional)
Puree apricots and their juice with Braun Multiquick Professional Handblender. Add yoghourt, orange juice and cinnamon and puree again until smooth. Makes about 2 1/2 cups
Tips:
- You can substitute apricots with canned pears or peaches.
- For a thinner consistency add a little skim milk or substitute yoghourt with skim.
- You can substitute Berryfruits yoghourt with any other fat free or low fat fruit yoghourt.
Body Refresher
1 cup diced seedless watermelon 1 cup diced, peeled rockmelon 1/4 small mango, peeled and diced
Puree all fruit with a handblender. Makes about 1 1/2 cups
Tips:
- You can substitute mango with fresh pineapple or simply add both.
